About Us

Scarab is a Singapore-based fashion apparel company founded in 2020.

But we are so much more than just a fashion apparel company.

We could be just another trend-chasing fast fashion brand, but we are not.

We do not use dropshipping. We carefully select every material and fabric and design every dimension of our pieces. We do not just slap our logo or prints on blank templates, and you will receive your products within a week of placing your order if you are ordering within Singapore.

We believe that good design is timeless.

We believe in quality over quantity, and we believe our products will speak for themselves.

We believe that our products should be worn and enjoyed throughout their entire life cycle. We do not want to sell you more junk than you need just to turn a quick profit.

We design all our products entirely in-house in Singapore, from the creation of graphics and selection of colours and materials, to the cutting and dimensions of our pieces.

We are more than a company. We are an idea. We are Scarab.

Scarab Singapore was founded in Singapore in 2020. Scarab Apparel Pte. Ltd. was incorporated in 2024.

The Scarab and The Eye

In ancient Egypt, the scarab was a symbol of rebirth, transformation, growth, and protection.

The scarab was associated with the sun god Khepri. The scarab beetle rolls balls of dung, just as Khepri was believed to roll the sun over the horizon at daybreak. The Egyptians also believed the balls contained the eggs of the scarab, tying the beetle to the eternal cycle of life, death, and resurrection.

The winged scarab was often depicted holding the sun up in hieroglyphs and pictures, and scarab amulets and jewelry were very popular. The scarab hieroglyph (kheper) was associated with the verb "to become" or "to come into existence," symbolizing the process of development and manifestation. Scarab amulets and jewelry were believed to offer protection from evil spirits, illness, and danger, and to bring good luck and strength.

The eye in the middle of the scarab in our logo symbolises clarity and wisdom.

It alludes to our roots in philosophy: we don't just see things, but we see.

In ancient Egypt, the Eye of Horus represents well-being, protection and healing, while the Eye of Ra represents divine power and wrath, and protection.

“This Idea Exists”

Our slogan is “This Idea Exists,” and is our version of a philosophical First Principle - an undisputable Truth.

It recognises the ontological while making no assumptions about the ontic.

Consider Plato's allegory of the cave.

How do we know that everything we experience isn't just a dream? Could this post you are reading and your entire human experience merely be a hallucination from a brain in a jar?

Descartes’ First Principle famously posits: “I think, therefore I am.”

But that assumes the existence of an active subject “I”. And by saying, “I think,” assumptions are made about free will and agency. Could the “I” merely be a passive vessel through which an ethereal consciousness flows through?

Even the supposedly improved upon, “Thinking is occurring,” requires assumptions about the nature of time and causality. It still hinges upon subjective perception. It assumes time as a single one dimensional line, with us conscious beings being zero-temporal-dimensional entities traversing this line unidirectionally.

The best we can do is propose: “This idea exists.”

There is something rather than nothing, and this something contains internally logical and self-consistent information, whatever this something truly is.

Our Pledge

We recognise that there is no perfect way to produce, sell, and distribute a product or grow a brand sustainably without some negative impact to humans (in terms of labour and working conditions, opportunity cost, competition of resources or other socio-economic and geopolitcal impacts) or the environment (for example, pollution in the manufacturing process, the use of water in fabric production or our carbon footprint in distribution of goods). Material consumerism in itself contributes to a waste problem.

That said, we promise to do our best in minimising these negative impacts and to run our business as ethically as possible. We try our best to ensure our workers and manufacturing partners are paid a fair wage with healthy work environments. We will not tolerate child labour. We will always strive to be animal cruelty-free.

We visit and inspect the factories of our manufacturing partners in person to ensure these standards are met.

We promise to put ethics before profit, and will operate and invest accordingly.

We believe consumers will see the value in our core principles of design-centric creativity, intentional problem-solving, and attention to detail with a quality-first approach.

We strive to constantly improve, and are open to feedback and enquiries.
